Short version: the game is free, and stays free. Skate Plus is a planned paid tier of extras on top. There's no subscription to buy today.
What stays free
Worth saying first, because it matters most. The account, the challenges, the games and the spots map are free. Forever, in the site's words. Skate Plus doesn't take any of that away.
What Skate Plus is planned to include
As the docs describe it, the planned tools are:
- Deeper stats on your games
- Replays
- MONGO sync, for the sensor prototype. See MONGO: the sensor prototype under your deck.
- Skate AI
- A clip vault, a place to keep your clips
- Holder perks
All planned. None of it is live yet.
How you'd pay for it
The plan is that Skate Plus would be paid in $SESH, which is also planned and doesn't exist yet. Or it'd be included if you hold a PIXELBOARD (also planned). See What are PIXELBOARDS?.
No price has been set. So if anyone tries to sell you a Skate Plus subscription right now, that's not Skate Labs.
About those screenshots
If you've seen screenshots on skatelabs.app, those show today's Global SKATE, not Skate Plus. The paid tier isn't built into what testers are using.
Why a free game plus extras
This is the setup a lot of skaters actually like: you can play SKATE with your friends without paying a thing, and if you get deep into stats and replays later, that's there for you. Nobody gets locked out of a game because they didn't pay.
